A Welcome from the Chapter President
Greetings and welcome to our chapter website. If you are not already a member of our chapter, we hope to get to know you in the weeks and months ahead.
Like all UNA-USA members nationwide we support the goals of building understanding of and support for the purposes and undertakings of the United Nations among the American people. Our education, membership and advocacy programs emphasize the importance of cooperation among nations and the need for American leadership at the UN. Similarly we join with all other chapters in promoting four specific current goals: securing US funding for the UN and its agencies; advancing human rights through the UN; encouraging US adherence to international treaties; and, supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In addition, those chapters in NJ and southern NY enjoy a special benefit. Each year a number of activists in our region coordinate with the UN’s Dept. of Public Information to organize an interactive educational event for our chapter members, area student Model UN teams and Student Alliance members. We call it our annual Global Engagement Summit (previously Members Day) at the UN. It consists of top level keynote speakers and panels of experts from the Permanent Missions to the UN, the UN Secretariat, UN specialized agencies and US government who discuss key issues pending before the UNSC, UNGA and ECOSOC. Previous summits have been held in the UN General Assembly Hall itself.
We are about 40-50 residents of Mercer County and parts of surrounding counties. Members meet on a bi-monthly basis to evaluate progress, consider new activities and the possible need for new policies or bylaw changes. We have been working with the international studies departments and Model UN teams of three area universities: Rider, Princeton and The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). We have been assisting them by arranging for knowledgeable speakers on current UN issues to give lectures or participate in panel discussions. We also have co-hosted lectures with other campus groups and the Princeton Public Library.
We hold regular bi-monthly meetings in the Princeton-Trenton area from 10:30 am to noon on the second Saturday of alternate months (Jan., March, May, July, Sept. and Nov.).
Come visit us or better still, join us here! Membership is a tax-deductible donation that supports our chapter and national UNA-USA's work.
If you are 25 or under, you can sign up with our chapter for free as a GenUN member, here, by completing the form and selecting our community chapter from the drop-down menu.
